Are you trying to find a hotel in the City of Manila but have no idea where to start? I’ve been there.
My husband and I had an unplanned trip to Manila from March 11 to 15, which meant we needed to find a hotel ASAP. Our criteria were simple: Affordable, comfortable, secure, and suited to our needs.
I’m from Cagayan de Oro, but I’d been visiting Metro Manila every year from 2015 to 2019, so I’m no stranger to the area. Yet, being a frequent visitor doesn’t make you a local. The City of Manila, in particular, is an unfamiliar territory for me compared to the rest of Metro Manila.
That unfamiliarity made the stakes feel higher. When I opened Google Maps, I was overwhelmed with hundreds of hotel pins, sponsored listings, and a flood of 3 to 5-star reviews. Scrolling through the reviews, I tried to sift the genuine ones from the glowing ones.
Customer Experience Before We Booked
I stumbled upon Casa Bocobo while browsing the area near Luneta Park. Their website is well-presented, the rooms looked clean and inviting, and they had a 4.3-star rating with mostly positive recent reviews. What shifted things for me was their booking process and customer service.
Before finding Casa Bocobo, I had called three other hotels, but none of them picked up. When I called Casa Bocobo, their front desk was friendly, patient, and answered all my questions.
Their booking system is also seamless where you reserve online as you will only pay upon check-in. I called a second time to confirm our booked reservation and they reassured us of the booking.
Lastly, the hotel has a security guard at the entrance and from the reviews and Google Maps location, the hotel is within walking distance from several key establishments which is a plus
So, in this blog post, I’ll be sharing an honest review I wish I had found when I was searching for a hotel and written from the perspective of someone navigating Manila City like a curious outsider and covering the things Google reviews don’t always tell you.
Location and Neighborhood Vibe
Casa Bocobo is located on J. Bocobo Street, Ermita, Manila. The location is more strategic than it might first appear on the map.
Within walking distance, you’ll find a solid mix of essentials and conveniences:
- Robinsons Manila
- Luneta Park
- National Museums
- Manila Doctor’s Hospital
- U.S. Embassy
- Watson’s
- Banks and ATMs
- 7-Eleven stores
- Fast food chains like Jollibee, McDonald’s, Chowking, and Mang Inasal
- Various restaurants
Practically, everything you’d need is either a short walk or a quick ride away
What makes it a hidden gem is how it doesn’t feel like you’re in the middle of Manila. The hotel sits away from the main highways and busy roads. It is tucked along a one-way street with minimal passing traffic.
If you’re looking for a hotel that keeps you close to everything without the noise and chaos of a main road location, Casa Bocobo’s location delivers.
Check-In Experience and First Impressions
We traveled to Manila via 2GO ship from Cagayan de Oro. You can read about our experience by clicking the picture below. We docked at the Port of Manila by 10:00AM and arrived at the hotel by around 10:30 AM.

We booked a Grab car going to the hotel. The moment we pulled up outside, the security guard was there to help carry our belongings to the lobby. A small gesture, but a great first impression.
Inside, the front desk receptionists greeted us warmly which is the kind of welcome that felt genuinely Filipino, which fits the hotel’s overall theme.
Since standard check-in is at 2:00 PM, I asked if an early check-in was possible. I was expecting to pay an extra fee. After a 30-minute wait, they accommodated us at no additional charge. It was a pleasant surprise.
The hotel is a two-story building with no elevator, but the staircase is short and manageable, a simple half-turn flight of steps. It’s not an issue at all. Since we had heavy luggage, a staff member helped carry everything up and walked us to our room.
The hallways were clean and smelled great, with scented aromas that made the space fresh and welcoming. There are also hot and cold water dispensers along the hallway for guests. We got lucky that ours was right outside our room door.
The Room
We stayed in a Standard Twin room. This costed us Php7,654.50 for 5 days and 4 nights.
The room is card key access and comes well-equipped with everything you’d need for a comfortable stay:
- Air conditioning
- Cabinets
- Cable TV with a good range of channels
- Bathroom with hot and cold shower
- Working table
- Full-body mirror
- Slippers and teacups
- In-room vault for valuables
- Towels, shampoo, toothbrush, and soap provided
The room was very spacious with plenty of room to store our luggage and move around comfortably, which I genuinely liked.
Our window faced Bocobo Street, but despite that, we heard no noise from passing cars or pedestrians. The room stayed quiet throughout our stay, which was a big win for us.
By this point, we were already glad we chose Casa Bocobo. The customer service from the moment we arrived and paired with a clean and comfortable room, made it clear we made the right call.
Other Hotel Services
Casa Bocobo also offers a few additional services worth knowing about.
They have an in-house dining option for breakfast at ₱300 per person, though we didn’t avail it during our stay.
Laundry and housekeeping services are also available, and we did avail of the laundry service. It’s priced at ₱400 for a maximum of 8kg.
The process was well-organized. Simply inform the front desk, and they’ll hand you a printed sheet to tally your items before turning them over to the laundry staff. We dropped ours off at 5:00 PM and had everything delivered back to our room, freshly washed and smelling great, by 9:00 AM the next morning.
The hotel also provides WiFi, but the connection is average. Sometimes, it’s there, sometimes it isn’t. This is pretty typical for hotels with multiple guests sharing the same network, so it’s nothing unusual. That said, if you’re working remotely and need a reliable internet connection, I’d advise bringing your own mobile data or a backup connection.
Lastly, I appreciated how the hotel handled maintenance. During our stay, they notified us in advance of brief power and water interruptions due to ongoing maintenance work. Each one just lasted less than five minutes. Notices were sometimes slipped right to our doorstep as a heads-up. The hotel also has a power generator as backup for outages, so you won’t be left in the dark for long. It’s a small thing, but being kept informed rather than caught off guard goes a long way as a guest.
Service and Staff
The staff at Casa Bocobo consistently greeted us whenever we crossed paths, whether in the hallways, the lobby, or anywhere around the hotel. It’s the kind of warmth that genuinely reflects Filipino hospitality.
It was also easy to reach their front desk. They provide a cell number and a WhatsApp number, so you can call or text anytime you need something. In our experience, their staff was quick to respond and acted on our requests right away. As for our case, we asked for extra plates, spoons, and an extra chair at various points during our stay. Every request was fulfilled promptly.
That level of responsiveness is something you don’t always get at larger hotels where requests can easily get lost in the system. Being a botique hotel, Casa Bocobo puts a premium on making sure every guest is taken care of.
What Could Be Better
Honestly, our stay at Casa Bocobo was hard to fault. Yet, in the spirit of a balanced review, here are two small things worth noting.
- The WiFi connection is inconsistent. It works well enough for casual browsing, but it isn’t something you can fully rely on. As mentioned earlier, this is common in hotels with shared networks, but it’s still something the hotel could look into improving for guests who need a more stable connection.
- The other is the lack of an elevator. While the staircase is short and manageable, it may be something to consider if you’re traveling with a lot of luggage, have mobility concerns, or are staying with elderly companions. The staff are helpful and willing to assist, but having an elevator would be a welcome addition.
These are minor points in the grand scheme of things and didn’t take away from our overall experience. However, they’re worth knowing about so you can plan accordingly.
Final Verdict
Casa Bocobo Hotel exceeded our expectations in almost every way. From the seamless booking process and the warm welcome at check-in, to the spacious and comfortable room, the prompt and attentive service, and a location that puts you close to everything Manila has to offer, it checked all the boxes we were looking for.
For a hotel at its price point, the value is genuinely hard to beat. It’s not a flashy five-star hotel, but it doesn’t need to be. What it offers is something arguably more important. A clean, comfortable, and secure place to stay, backed by staff who actually care about your experience.
I’d recommend Casa Bocobo to solo travelers, couples, and small groups visiting Manila, especially those who are unfamiliar with the city and want a reliable, well-located base without breaking the bank.
As for us? When we come back to Manila in the future, Casa Bocobo is already our first choice. It’s that kind of hotel that quietly wins you over, not through grand gestures, but through the consistency of doing the small things right.
